Simply Self-Care
(article written for Skin Deep's newsletter February 2018)Self-care is Simple. When you think of self-care what comes to mind? How about; going for a massage, a facial, getting your nails done, relaxing on vacation to name a few…Do you have a self-care routine? If not, why?Self-care is Important and doesn’t have to be expensive or time consuming. It can be as simple as pausing to take a mindful deep breath, or going for a short walk.My name is Sabrina Schottenhamel, I am a Licensed Massage Therapist and Professional Speaker. Samantha Dench, Owner and Author of Skin Deep requested I write on Self-care because my most requested speaking topic is the Five Simple Self-Care Techniques. In this interactive presentation I walk the audience though each technique and help them create their own simple self-care routine. A quick overview of ‘The Simple Five’Self MassageTake BreaksMindful BreathingSinus CareGuided MeditationFor each; I introduce the technique, list the benefits, and then teach how to create a routine, then apply them immediately!Sabrina’s Resolutions and Routine:This year I made a few resolutions with myself, 1) Create a morning routine to kick-start my day, and 2) Receive more massages. So far I’ve had three massages in January and have two scheduled for February! I’m always encouraging my clients to get on a regular massage schedule but I wasn’t practicing what I preached. Well, now how can anyone take me serious if I’m not even caring for myself??? Well, this is the year I stand by my word and my recommendations! Here’s MY self-care routine. For my first self-care resolution in 2018, I created a morning routine; I wake up to my alarm extra early (to give me plenty of ‘me time’), drink plenty of water, enjoy some coffee and then I exercise. Some days I walk over to the gym, other days when I’m limited on time I take about 10-20 minutes in my living room to move and stretch before anything else. Along with the daily exercise I’ve been listening to a short Guided Meditation to get my mind clear for the day. The meditations have helped with my focus, I have been able to get more accomplished with ease! It feels so good!!! I use an App called Insight Timer, it’s great because there are meditations for all walks of life and any length of time! It’s perfect when you’re short on time or when you just need a few minutes to stop and regroup.Create your own routine, tweak it when needed but always have a routine to fall back on so you stay consistent.Put yourself first in order to care for those around you; family, friends and clients! This IS Self-Care made easy!If you have any questions for me or think someone can benefit from the Five Simple Self-Care Techniques please call, text, or email me! I’d love to hear from you!Thank You and Be Well ~ Sabrina Schottenhamelwww.sabrinaschottenhamel.com630-709-7900sabschott@gmail.com Need a Facial? Contact Samantha Dench @ www.skindeepil.com
